Communicates the university brand story through a variety of written media, including news releases, feature stories, blogs, publications, webpages, newsletters, scripts, etc. This position works proactively with university staff to create meaningful and engaging copy and content, as well as support these functions within University Communications.

This position is on-campus, with opportunities for flexible scheduling and some remote work. Candidate should be able to commute daily to Edmond, OK.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions.

Researches, writes and edits articles, stories, news releases and copy for news media, digital media, publications and internal communications with goal of promoting awareness and/or action on behalf of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Arranges and conducts interviews with faculty, staff, students, alumni and other necessary parties, as well as the arrangement of photo shoots and/or video to accompany stories.
Builds, writes and edits, Centralities, UCO’s daily e-newsletter.
Develops and maintains contacts throughout campus to generate story ideas.
Serves as a liaison to and meets regularly with teams in the Division of Enrollment and Student Success to provide communications support and proactive guidance with events and projects.
Build and cultivate library of student, faculty, staff and alumni testimonials.
Build strong relationships with members of the campus community and engage in campus events and activities.
Proofreads, edits and prepares for distribution news releases written by college/department communications staff.
Supports the development and maintenance of content for digital and social media, university blogs and the UCO website.
Works with University Communications team to support and implement integrated brand and marketing strategies for the university as a whole and specific university departments and initiatives. Suggests and assists in the development of creative communications strategies and tactics appropriate for achieving identified goals.
Assists in coordination of media coverage, including arranging interviews with appropriate faculty, staff, and students and serving as a spokesperson when needed.
Assists in implementing communications projects, programs and strategies to generate media interest, student recruitment and public recognition for the institution.
Assists with promotional video and radio production including writing scripts, arranging shoots, and identifying and interviewing individuals appropriate to the content.
Assists with monitoring the University Communications department email and serves as backup to other department functions as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related area plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts. Advanced knowledge of AP Style and grammar. Please include cover letter and writing samples with application.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred:

Familiarity with university environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Advanced writing and editing skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Motivated, positive, self-starting attitude with strong work ethic.
