Role: We are looking for a communications specialist with a flair for writing, particularly to investor and corporate audiences. You may have been a communications professional or perhaps you have a background in Responsible Investment or Stewardship and know you have a good way with words. This new role in our dynamic Communications team will work with colleagues with climate science and finance expertise to assist in producing and editing a steady stream of written analysis, financial and climate science insights, and media releases, as well as writing content for our shareholder community, supporters and website. You can see the kind of work we produce at https://www.accr.org.au/insights/ and at https://www.accr.org.au/research/. You will also work in a team developing strategic communications plans aimed at ensuring our work has the maximum impact on our audiences.

You’ll love this job if:

You LOVE writing. You write well and accurately - both in content and in grammar and punctuation - and are adept at writing high level and technical content in a form that will catch the eye of busy professionals, be easy for them to digest and convince them it’s essential reading.
You understand the physical and financial risks of climate change and are committed to working towards mitigating these risks.
You are intrigued by investment stewardship, corporate strategy, climate science and responsible business, and could quickly get your head into them and how to communicate about them for experts and interested novices. You may not be an expert in these areas yourself but you can turn rigorous research into a readable and attractive form that’s still 100% accurate.
You are a strategic thinker, with the ability to use communications as a tool to educate and drive outcomes.
You would thrive working in a collaborative, experienced and dynamic team.

Responsibilities

The role will include the following types of tasks:

developing strategic communications to enable investors to escalate engagements with heavy-emitting companies in their portfolios
writing and editing communications to our audiences, including the investment community and ACCR’s shareholder community
contributing content for general awareness, such as our annual review and website copy
assisting to track our communications impact, and analysing trends in the ecosystem in which we work.

Criteria

We’re looking for someone with these types of skills and experience in the following areas:

Exceptional English writing skills with strong professional writing experience; professional communications or media/journalism experience would be an asset.
Capacity to grasp and communicate about complex financial, legal or technical matters such as institutional capital and shareholder strategy, climate science, finance, corporations, investment stewardship, with the capacity to learn quickly about them. Experience in relation to these areas would be an asset.
Ability to use communications as a strategic tool to educate and drive outcomes.
Great interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with colleagues in a multidisciplinary team to develop content and communications strategy.
Alignment with ACCR’s mission and values, with a desire to make a real difference to global emissions.

If you don’t meet every point above, please still apply if you can see your skills well used in this role.
