Hometown Weekly, an independent community newspaper covering Medfield, Dover, Sherborn, Walpole, Westwood and Needham is seeking its next reporter. This is a part-time, $300-per-week position in which you will be responsible for covering and writing about the extremely diverse events, people, places and things that one might find in a small town. Collaborating closely with the managing editor, you will work diligently to tell the stories of Hometown Weekly's communities. On a weekly basis, you will be responsible for submitting four to six assigned stories of 350+ words, plus multiple quality, high-resolution photographs. Hours are dependent upon coverage schedules, and will vary week to week. This position will not work for somebody with an existing full-time job, as covering daytime and afternoon events is a major part of the gig. The job might be perfect for a local freelance writer looking for consistent weekly assignments. It might also be ideal for a local recent college graduate with impeccable writing skills, a winning personality, ample curiosity, and something to prove. If you're looking for on-the-job experience as a writer, it doesn't get much better than this. There is no hoop-jumping or coffee-getting here. There are no corporate ladders to climb. There is only writing/reporting, and plenty of it.
