The Role
Vogue Business is an online fashion industry publication launched in 2019. Headquartered at Condé Nast’s London headquarters, we offer a truly global perspective on the fashion industry, drawing on insights from Condé Nast’s network of journalists and business leaders in 32 markets to empower fashion professionals to make better business decisions.
Vogue Business is seeking a talented Sub-Editor to work at the heart of our fast-paced editorial team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented wordsmith with a good understanding of the fashion industry and corresponding language and an ability to work in a fast-paced, agile startup environment. The right candidate is a sub-editor with two to three years of subbing experience, with a background in digital editorial and fashion, business and/or features knowledge.
This role acts as a guardian of the Vogue Business tone of voice by proofing all copy, checking for spelling and grammar and fact-checking for accuracy. They will sub articles to ensure they are optimised for the end platform or content type (website, e-mail, social, marketing, commercial).
The role would report to the Managing Editor and work within the editorial team across all digital content, from features to photography to social copy. The sub-editor will also work closely with other departments to ensure all in-house copy remains consistent and in the Vogue Business style.
What will you be doing
Work closely with the editorial team to sub and shorten copy as required to a consistently high standard, using the Vogue Business style guide.
Proofread to ensure all copy reads to the Vogue Business standard to provide our readers with the best possible reading experience and factual accuracy.
Factcheck meticulously to ensure accuracy across all published content and clarify where needed.
Proofread captions, credits and charts to ensure grammar, spelling and tone of voice remain consistent across all copy.
Maintain the Vogue Business house style, tone of voice and best practices for copy to be used by the in-house team and freelancers for consistency.
Suggest captions, headlines and pull quotes in keeping with the Vogue Business house style and optimised for SEO and our digital audience.
Work alongside the managing editor to update the style guide as and when required.
Upload content to the content management system and social channels as required to support the wider team and ensure the smooth running of editorial workflow.
Work with the head of marketing to approve all marketing and communications, ensuring that all marketing materials display the Vogue Business house style.
Sub advisory projects such as the Vogue Business Index and Insight Reports.
Sub all event materials — presentations, marketing, comms, social, editorial — for our quarterly Forums and yearly Vogue Business Summit, as well as any copy used in our webinars.
Working with our managing editor and Vogue Business in China associate editorial director to sub the China team’s English-language content.
Who you are
Demonstrable experience in a fast-paced news, business or fashion publishing environment at sub-editor level or equivalent.
Proficient copy editing and sub-editing skills with the ability to become the guardian of the Vogue Business tone of voice.
Highly skilled at producing headlines optimised for digital platforms.
Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal and relationship management skills.
Proactive with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Confident in fact-checking financial figures and proofreading copy as the final step responsible before publication.
Strong understanding of what makes a great article, how to engage readers with excellent content and what makes a Vogue Business article unique.
Comfortable working within a global company and liaising with writers across different time zones.
Good knowledge of the fashion industry is desirable.
