We are seeking an experienced, thoughtful VP, Content Lead to oversee health editorial content that is supported by our advertisers across the company. This content is editorially produced but thematically aligned to topics that advertisers have a specific interest in surrounding. Advertisers have no control over the content outside of suggesting topic alignment and any conflicts of interest for their brands. The ideal candidate is an expert in assigning and editing content about health conditions, with proven experience leading/managing a team to brainstorm, assign, and edit health conditions content, ensuring that it is engaging, medically accurate, and inclusive. Reporting into the Chief Content Operations Officer, Content Operations, the VP, Content Lead role essentially leads a center of excellence that may consult on health content across all Conde Nast brands. Additionally this person will consult with pre-sale marketing to ideate new-to-market content initiatives and liaise with the activation team.
The ideal candidate has a sharp sense of how to package all content—including evergreen health explainers and personal narratives—in a way that makes it relatable and worthy of conversation. This person should feel comfortable handling a high volume of stories at once, playing a key role in ensuring the CN brands meet revenue goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
Directly manage the advertiser-supported health content creation workstream across brands: collaborate on content strategy with Editors-in-Chief and Commercial teams; assign stories out to freelance writers; review and top-edit stories (in collaboration with EICs and other brand editors); and publish.
Directly manage content production budgets for each project, as determined by commercial/sales teams.
Work closely with the Editor-in-Chiefs across brands to implement brand growth and commercial revenue strategies for the health category, with an emphasis on producing content that is expertly reported, shareable, engaging, and inclusive.
Stay abreast of whitespace reporting opportunities that demonstrate Condé Nast’s role as a leader in the health space. Brainstorm, pitch, and project manage new packages, initiatives, and formats for health conditions content, in partnership with the commercial marketing team.
Directly oversee advertiser supported health content, working cross-functionally with cross-brand editorial teams and the health marketing/sales team to deliver campaign needs and ensure appropriate brand tone and voice.
Rigorously fact-check and top-edit all health conditions content before it is published.
Work closely with the video team to assist in conceptualizing, script-writing, and fact-checking ad-supported health videos.
Collaborate with audience development teams to track engagement and analytics, and work with the editors across the building to help them hone their strategies as it relates to health content. If something isn’t working, you’ll try something new.
Requirements:
At least 10 years of health editing experience with a focus on service journalism. Experience partnering with commercial marketing and sales teams in the health category.
A thorough understanding of the health and wellness landscape, strong scientific literacy, and a deep understanding of health reporting best practices.
Experience working with a medical review board and implementing expert feedback, as well as knowledge of SEO best practices.
Deep understanding of commercial revenue needs and the RFP process.
An established pool of top-notch freelancers who can adeptly cover a variety of health conditions for a diverse consumer audience.
Impeccable editorial judgment and attention to detail, and the ability to write and edit clean copy and produce conversational, approachable stories that establish a clear point of view.
Proven track record managing robust digital editorial lineups of numerous stories per week.
Ability to pitch endless story ideas that are timely, shareable, thought-provoking, and in line with Condé Nast brand values.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $175,000.00-$210,000.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
