Education Reporter

New Posted 6 September 2022 | Hartford, Connecticut | Connecticut Mirror

The Connecticut Mirror is a local journalism success story with huge momentum and ambitious growth goals. Our mission is to produce original, in-depth, nonpartisan journalism that informs Connecticut residents about the impact of public policy, holds government accountable, and amplifies diverse voices and perspectives. We have an immediate opening for a full-time education reporter to join our growing newsroom of public policy and investigative reporters. The statewide education reporter will be expected to cover a wide range of issues in a state with a reputation for having some of the best K-12 schools in the country – and the largest achievement gaps between students from low-income families and their classmates. The reporter will write about state education policies and proposed legislation with a focus on how both will impact students, both in K-12 and college, as well as cover the escalating arguments in school districts over curriculum, mask-wearing, mental health, school safety, and vaccines. The beat will include a balance of in-depth longform, smart enterprise and daily stories, and the reporter will be expected to find people who are directly impacted by state policy.
