As a key member of our Home and Technology team, you will report on smartphones and other electronic devices, delivering product reviews, news stories, timely consumer service, and thoughtful journalism on issues from unfair pricing to safety hazards. You’ll report to the deputy technology editor and collaborate closely with our test engineers, market analysts, safety and design experts, survey department, video producers, and social media team. Your work will appear online and in print.
Under our CR Flex program, this is a hybrid position eligible for remote work up to 80 percent of the time. Candidates must reside within 75 miles of our Yonkers, NY, office.

How You'll Make an Impact:
Whether writing a review of Apple’s latest iPhones, evaluating digital notebooks, or offering advice on how to preserve family photos, you’ll combine technical insight, smart reporting, and an eagerness to collaborate with coworkers to generate attention-grabbing stories that further the organization's mission. You will also work with our video, social media, and communications teams to promote CR’s work and help us expand our audience.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll Be Highly Rated If:
You have the background. You’ve earned a BS degree in journalism or some other discipline and have spent at least 5-years covering consumer technology and/or home products for a broad consumer audience.
You take a consumer-first approach. You can convert technical insights and data into informative, well-written, easy-to-understand content.
You are tech-savvy. You are knowledgeable and interested in consumer products, especially household electronic items from smartphones to printers.
You are an idea generator. You have lots of original story ideas to pitch.

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE
At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $103k to $110k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
