Key Responsibilities:
This role is accountable and responsible for:
Writing
● Take part in a roster of writing/publishing shifts, including the selection of appropriate imagery, video and other media, at all times remaining within Starts at 60’s established style, legal and business guidelines
● Exercise exceptional news judgment to select content material suitable for the Starts at 60 audience, and show a strong understanding of how that content can be adapted to the audience’s needs
● Create content for commercial partners where required including writing to a brief and aligning to commercial goals
● Master all of Starts at 60’s areas of content production, including recipes, jokes, affiliate content and Travel at 60 content
● Work with Commercial/Content Marketing Teams to brainstorm and create partner-related and other on-brand content where required
● Strong level of awareness of the local and global news environment, particularly in such areas of specific interest to the Starts at 60 community/audience.
Editing
● Demonstrate an excellent understanding of Starts at 60’s use of external publishing platforms and take part in managing use of those platforms from both an editorial and commercial standpoint
● Strong level of awareness of developments and trends in digital and traditional media from a publishing/commercial standpoint
● Liaise with the Starts at 60 Bloggers, experts and freelancers to edit and publish stories where required.
Other
● Coordinate the content calendar with the Head of Content & Head of Marketing to ensure all stories are planned, allocated to writers and themes communicated across the business
● Moderate and interact with the Starts at 60 community/audience where required, including to source content and manage social media groups
● Social engagement monitoring, insights and actioning where required
● Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within internal teams and with external stakeholders.
● Create content utilising design templates and using brand guidelines

Education & Skillset:
An experienced writer and reporter with news and feature writing skills
● Able to learn and follow to a high degree of accuracy an in-house style guide and edit copy to that guide where required
● Able to select imagery/video and appropriately engaging headlines and other required promotional fields relevant to the needs and interests of the over-60s
● Confident and comfortable in establishing and growing an external ‘contact book’ of sources both individual and organisation, and represents the business in interactions with those sources at the highest level of integrity
● Strong social media skills relating to the news and information publishing environment
● Experience writing affiliate content and content to drive commercial outcomes
● Knowledge of relevant media law and digital publishing norms to ensure the business remains within local and global best-practice guidelines
● A degree or other qualification in journalism/communications/PR is ideal but not required
● Experience in Wordpress, GA4, Meta Ads Manager, photographic sources and other social media platforms is ideal but not required
● Experience using Photoshop, desktop publishing tools, In-design, Adobe Suite &/or Canva desired.
