Content Developer (Learning)

The Assessment Services team at GED Testing Service (GEDTS) is seeking a qualified individual who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality products for our adult learners. The successful candidate will work with the existing team of content specialists in all areas of high school level English Language Arts assessment development, including passage and item development, test construction, forms review, data analysis, and all aspects of the GED Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) test development.

Responsibilities:

Facilitate, maintain, and oversee content development in English Language Arts (Reading, Language, and Writing).
Develop, review, write, and edit complex passages and items including multiple-choice and technology-enhanced items.
Ensure appropriate high school end-of-course rigor and complexity in passages and items. Solve problems related to quality and complexity in commissioned literary and informative passage development. Provide references in support of the use of each item (i.e., rationales for the correct response and incorrect responses); provide source references and copyright research for passages.
Select, assign, and manage subcontracted content development activities including developing and conducting item and passage writer training.
Perform passage research according to required specifications as needed.
Use content authoring and technology tools to construct, track, and edit items.
Participate in planning and scheduling activities.
Develop specifications, item/passage development plans, and other ancillary documents.
Ensure the accuracy of item validity information, such as content coding and keying.
Facilitate and support virtual customer meetings (e.g., content, fairness, etc.) and provide content expertise.
Participate in activities related to test construction, test forms review, and data review.
Create documents analyzing/summarizing content alignment between GED Assessment Targets/Indicators and other content standards.
Work closely with the Director of Test Development, project managers, other subject area content leads, psychometricians, and Pearson/GEDTS groups.
Conduct program and industry-related research as required. Support cross-content GED initiatives as needed.
Support existing language arts team.
Support or facilitate scoring and rangefinding activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel is minimal.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, English literature, education, or equivalent education & experience required; master's degree desired.
Minimum 3 years experience in English education required, high school EOC preferred.
Minimum 3 years experience creating student assessments that are aligned to learning standards required. Experience with Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts preferred.
Experience writing complex texts (such as articles, essays, stories) required. In-depth understanding of how to build evidence-based and complex arguments required. Fiction writing experience preferred. Previous writing for publications (including educational or assessment) preferred.
Ability to conduct and evaluate research about a variety of real-world topics (including science and social studies topics) required. Ability to verify facts and determine the validity of sources required. Ability to research complex public domain texts.
Ability to write, review, and edit complex items aligned to high-school equivalency learning standards required.
Excellent skills in grammar, editing, and writing required.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills required.
Ability to perform all phases of assessment development including item writing, editing, data review, test building, and providing feedback for continual improvement of test development required.
Strong knowledge of assessment best practices required.
Strong knowledge of universal design best practices required.
Ability to interpret student performance trends based on psychometric data required.
Ability to lead virtual committee review meetings that evaluate items and passages for content validity and fairness/sensitivity required.
Ability to represent GEDTS and present at conferences required.
Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to coordinate multiple activities and adapt to unexpected events and changing priorities required.
Strong computer skills and broad knowledge of common software programs, strong technology skills, and the confidence necessary to learn unfamiliar programs required.
Ability to work collaboratively and as a sole contributor, including the ability to provide unique solutions to simple, complex, and nuanced problems required.
Ability to think adaptively and respond to feedback required.
Ability to hold oneself accountable to high standards required.
Strong understanding and appreciation of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in adult education and in all aspects of content development required.
Strong understanding and appreciation of our role in adult education preferred.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State, and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary is $60,000.
