Contributing Writer

The Our Towns Civic Foundation is devoted to connecting the people and telling the stories of this movement. Our reports and features cover a wide range of issues, but we concentrate on innovation at the smaller-town, neighborhood, and regional levels. We are looking for stories about promising approaches from one community that might be shared elsewhere. Our stories have covered community and economic development; environment and sustainability; education; the future of journalism; the future of technology at the local level; rural and regional growth; and more. We are looking for contributing writers to join our team. We are particularly looking for contributors familiar with sustainability issues in the broadest sense, and with community life. Our emphasis is on written reports, but we also feature photos, videos, audio interviews, digital mapping, and other extensions of our message. Ideally our contributors would be comfortable with these other media, or willing to learn about them. Please submit a letter of interest to jobs@OurTownsFoundation.org with “Our Towns Writers – YOUR NAME” in the subject line. Please include a few samples of your past work that you think would be the closest match to our stories, and a brief note about who you are, why you are interested in contributing to Our Towns, your work experience, where you live and can easily travel, links to other past work, etc.
