Description: Meedan seeks an experienced Copy Writer-Editor with expertise creating original, in-depth content at the intersection of journalism and technology. We are a global not-for-profit that helps journalists and human rights groups investigate and distribute critical information during elections, war, epidemics and other major events.

We design programs that help improve the exchange of quality information in communities during breaking news. Our work has won multiple awards for collaborative project design around the world. Our software, Check, allows journalists and other information leaders to communicate directly with their audiences on closed messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber.

The Copy Writer-Editor will be responsible for making sure Meedan’s programs and software are being effectively expressed and promoted through blogs, newsletters, website pages and decks. You will be expected to translate technical information from a variety of fields— including human rights, journalism, academia, technology, and computer science—into copy that is both accessible and nuanced for Meedan’s audiences of funders, partners and software users.

Some of the content you’ll manage will be drafted by team members living and working in North Africa and Western Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean. You’ll be expected to work closely with colleagues to incorporate critical regional context and information into final drafts while editing the work for style, clarity and tone.

Core responsibilities:

Review, edit and fact-check weekly editorial content for Meedan’s newsletter, website, decks and other channels.
Pitch and develop original content that showcases the work of Meedan and our partners during elections, conflicts, natural disasters and other major events
Effectively and independently translate use cases of Meedan’s software, Check, for new and non-technical audiences
Collaborate with Meedan’s communications team to devise content strategies, editorial calendars, and production schedules
Ensure the quality, accuracy, and adherence to Meedan style and standards of all content produced
Implement SEO best practices to increase content visibility and reach
Support the distribution of content across websites, social media, email newsletters, and other digital channels
Monitor audience feedback and engagement metrics to inform content decisions

Required Experience & Qualifications

Extensive experience producing, managing and editing content for a global organization focused on human rights, journalism, technology or another related field.
Demonstrated ability to independently produce content that aligns with a specified tone and style
Exceptional command of AP style
Exceptional writing and editing skills in English
Familiarity with SEO and content optimization
