The copywriter is responsible for writing and editing copy for a wide variety of marketing materials and mediums, including web, email, social, print and video. The copywriter/proofreader will be responsible for crafting inspiring copy that speaks with a voice unique to the brand in an insightful manner. Additional duties include participation in marketing campaign planning and brainstorming, including strategy, promotional ideas, and direction. This position checks grammar, spelling and punctuation. This position works with reference materials supplied by the Executive Creative Director, Art Director, writers, art directors and marketing staff to help keep work error-free. This position focuses on quality control across increasingly complex assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

Adopt, refine, and maintain consistency with brand voice while adjusting for channel and audience needs
Write and edit content that is clear, concise, and compelling. Copy may be used for websites, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, and other marketing material Create content for sales collateral including brochures and presentations
Develop ad copy and copy for other brand touch points such as signage and event communications
Create concise, informative, and engaging direct email communications that generate click through for purchasing products and services. Participate in testing and continuous improvement of communications
Develop targeted, effective copy to convey company products and encourage immediate user action in emails and banner ads
Participate in marketing campaign planning and brainstorming, including strategy, promotional ideas, and direction
Final proofing and approval of text that is placed in layout form (e-mail, ads, printed materials, etc.)
Brainstorm new concepts, taglines, and slogans Individually and collaboratively
Maintain library of brand terms, descriptions, product descriptions, etc.
Ensure editorial content is written and presented in a format that meets web usability standards and is consistent with company guidelines and brand image
Identify trends and seek buzz-friendly content through multiple marketing channels and audiences
Collaborate with communications to implement a social first strategy for the distribution of club news and information

Supplemental Job Functions:

Assist with internal and external communication copy needs e.g. contribute to e-newsletters, press releases, company newsletter, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in English, advertising, communication or journalism - Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work can be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 2 years writing experience in marketing preferably in an agency environment
Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards
High-caliber writing skills with a focus on response-oriented communication
Ability to effectively develop compelling ideas, concepts, and campaigns working collaboratively with creative and marketing teams
Attention to detail, deadline focus, and ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks
The ability to copy edit and provide grammatically correct (or acceptable marketing language) copy decks ready for layout
Superior working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, .com companies and similar sites
High degree of computer literacy and proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to write in a range of voices and styles for varied projects with diverse audiences
Adept at strategic brainstorming, campaign development, creative brief development and creative execution
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and effectively juggle diverse writing demands
Sound understanding of graphic design and a keen appreciation of the interplay between textual and visual elements

Preferred Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry

Working Conditions:

Exposure to moderate noise level
Frequent visual/auditory attention
