General Assignment Reporter

Cowboy State Daily, Wyoming’s largest news organization, is expanding again.

We’re looking for two general assignment reporters to cover different areas of the state.

The successful candidates will be experienced writers who can turn around clean copy in real time. You work well under pressure and love the idea of finding the news. If you like to travel, this job is for you.

A local businessperson bought our organization 18 months ago, and our readership has soared. We’re the most-read news organization in the state and continue to grow.

We will never be acquired by a hedge fund. We will never be part of a chain.

You will:

Stay on top of the news in your geographic region; know how to sniff it out
Develop trustworthy sources in your area
Produce consistent, high-quality copy and know how to meet deadlines
Work with others. We have reporters all over the state, and we all help each other out
Come to daily budget meetings loaded with story ideas
Take photos and video, on occasion

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree
2+ years of journalism experience
Outgoing, great communicator
Ability to work independently
Must possess excellent writing skills and knowledge of AP style
A keen sense of humor (or at least try)
