Crain Currency, a digital community that provides critical business intelligence to ultra-high-net-worth families, family office principals and the professionals who serve them both, is seeking a general assignment reporter to join its growing operation.

The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist who is comfortable covering wealth management and the operation of single- and multi-family offices. The role involves keeping up with practice management, philanthropy, cybersecurity, luxury, and regulatory issues, among many others that affect the ultra-high net worth community. This role also involves reporting on investing trends, people moves and succession challenges within the family office sector.

We are looking for a self-starter who can cultivate sources and develop their ideas independently and meet daily and weekly deadlines. Crain Currency is known for delivering premium content – breaking news, enterprise, and analysis that our audience can’t find anywhere else.

What we’re looking for:

The most important ability in this role is to be able to report and write breaking news stories on tight deadlines, filing clean, accurate copy that can be published online quickly with minimal editing.
The ability to produce feature-length stories on news, trends and issues that are relevant to wealthy individuals, families and the myriad of professionals who serve them.
An interest in engaging the family office community through social media, blog posts and video.
Attend and report on beat-related conferences and industry gatherings.

Basic Qualifications:

2+ years experience in business journalism, could include internships or college newspaper experience
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact with heavy hitters from the wealth management world
A proven ability to develop reliable sources and break news
The ability to think and write broadly and be adept at balancing short-term coverage and breaking news with features and longer-term assignments
Demonstrated news judgment
Strong critical thinking skills

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:

The estimated salary range for this position is $50,000 to $80,000.

The final salary offering will take into account a wide range of factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. The salary range provided should not be considered as a salary limit or cap. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.
