Crain’s New York Business, an award-winning publication that covers power, money and property in New York City, is hiring a politics reporter. We are looking for an ambitious and independent-minded journalist who can develop exclusive leads and leverage established relationships with the major players in New York City and Albany. The politics reporter should be comfortable working with campaign finance and other publicly available data, as well as filing Freedom of Information requests to bring a vigilant eye to public spending and official decision-making. The politics reporter will be comfortable interviewing powerful people, working with sources at City Hall, pursuing news with creative angles that speak to Crain’s audience, and showing why and how policy is relevant to our readers. Because so many beats overlap with politics (real estate, health care, finance, climate, tech, transportation), the politics reporter should be able to work well on a team and be willing to contribute ideas and information to colleagues on the news desk.
