Sports Writer

The Daily American Republic has an opening for a sports writer who wants to make a difference and not just follow what everyone else is doing. The DAR is looking for someone with a good work ethic, a positive attitude, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

The DAR’s coverage area is home to 12 high schools and Three Rivers College. It’s a hotbed for sports with teams routinely advancing far in the state tournament.

The DAR is located in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and publishes five days a week, including three print and two digital. We are the top source for news and sports in our area, and recently revealed a new website, darnews.com .

Our new hire will be someone we hope can take over as sports editor within six months. We are willing to train recent graduates or someone wanting to move up to sports editor.

Job duties include:

• Write about and photograph live sporting events

• Develop digital and social media content

• Paginate using InDesign

• Uncover hidden talent in our area to use as freelance writers

• Write some news stories during slower sports seasons

We offer a $1,000 bonus after the 12 months of employment. We have the standard full-time benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance, 401K, and free life insurance. Poplar Bluff is located two-and-a-half hours from Memphis, Tennessee, and St. Louis, Missouri. We are also the “Gateway to the Ozarks.”
