Responsibilities:
· Conduct thorough research and investigate news stories across a wide range of topics, including politics, city government, schools, police/courts, business, culture, and more.
· Write engaging, accurate, and concise articles.
· Cover breaking news events and deliver timely and informative reports.
· Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts.
· Pitch creative and compelling story ideas to editors.
· Take photographs and videos to enhance storytelling through multimedia content.
· Contribute to digital platforms, including social media, blogs, and video reports.
· Use InDesign to paginate pages.
Requirements:
· Experience as a newspaper reporter preferred.
· Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
· Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· An understanding of journalistic ethics and standards.
· Proficiency in digital media tools and social media platforms.
· Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
· Ability to adapt quickly to new topics and beats.
The Daily American Republic is located in Poplar Bluff, a city of 18,000 in Southeast Missouri, and publishes Tuesday through Saturday
mornings. We have a seven-member newsroom, five news and two sports, along with writing and photographer stringers. Our newsroom has won several Missouri Press Association awards and is led by a 20-year veteran editor who has done it all.
