Photographer

New Posted 26 October 2023 | Tupelo, Mississippi | Daily Journal

The Daily Journal, one of Mississippi’s largest news organizations, is seeking a passionate full-time photographer with an eye for detail to join its news team.

Duties will include coverage of news, business, living and sporting events. The Daily Journal’s coverage area includes 56 high schools and two SEC universities — Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Subjects will vary, from portraits of area residents for feature stories to on-the-fly photo coverage of natural disasters and other unexpected news events. Every day in our newsroom is different and will offer renewed opportunities to hone your craft and develop your lighting skills while building your portfolio.

You will work under the guidance and direction of longtime Daily Journal photographer Thomas Wells, one of the most award-winning shooters in the state’s history. To succeed in this position, you’ll need to be a self-starter and unafraid of being creative. The Journal will provide a variety of professional equipment to help you succeed.

This is a full-time position, although you’ll need to have some flexibility in your schedule based on our coverage needs for the week. Some weekend work at various times of the year will be required.

The Journal offers a competitive salary along with a generous benefits package, which includes health insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, paid vacation, sick days and a 401(k) retirement plan.

If you’re interested, please send your resume and samples of your work to thomas.wells@journalinc.com.
