About the role

Daily Mail US is seeking a visionary, technically skilled and highly motivated Head of Editorial SEO to lead our SEO and audience growth strategy across all editorial content. This is a senior leadership role requiring a strategic thinker with deep experience in news SEO and a strong understanding of how to embed best practices in a fast-paced newsroom.

The successful candidate will drive our editorial SEO efforts across DailyMail.com in the U.S., manage a growing team and work closely with senior editors, writers and audience development specialists. You’ll be a vocal champion of SEO in the newsroom—training staff, driving performance and helping the Daily Mail expand its reach across search platforms.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Own and evolve the U.S. editorial SEO strategy across DailyMail.com, ensuring alignment with newsroom goals and traffic targets.

Define, monitor and communicate key SEO KPIs to editorial leadership and senior stakeholders.
Collaborate with global SEO counterparts to ensure consistency and knowledge-sharing.

Team Management

Lead and develop a high-performing editorial SEO team, setting clear goals and ensuring best-in-class execution.

Oversee daily SEO operations, workflows and editorial optimization across all content verticals.

Editorial Integration & Training

Partner closely with editors and writers to embed SEO best practices into editorial planning, headlines and copy.

Conduct training sessions and create resources to educate staff on search trends, industry developments and optimization techniques.

Act as the primary SEO liaison across editorial departments, advocating for data-informed decision-making.

Performance Analysis & Innovation

Use tools like Google Trends, SEMRush, NewsDashboard and Search Console to monitor performance and identify traffic opportunities.

Stay attuned to algorithm updates and adapt editorial strategies accordingly.

Executive & Industry Engagement

Represent the editorial SEO function in leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions.

Attend and speak at relevant industry events or conferences to keep Daily Mail at the forefront of SEO in journalism.

Person Specification

7+ years of experience in editorial SEO, digital journalism, or audience development—ideally in a major newsroom

Proven success growing search traffic and building SEO strategies that work at scale

Deep understanding of Google News, Discover and trending content optimization

Skilled in tools like SEMRush, NewsDashboard, Sistrix, Google Trends and GSC

Confident communicator with experience training journalists and influencing senior editors

Highly organized, data-savvy and passionate about the intersection of journalism and audience growth
