The deputy editor handles fundamental responsibilities for the Pitt Magazine, the University of Pittsburgh's alumni publication, and for other University publications. The position will be best served by a process-oriented beat and line editor with skills in editing, writing, project management, research, fact- checking, and proofreading with high quality and on deadline. A qualified candidate will be able to identify, research, report and write accurate, engaging stories and other content to support the University’s strategic plan and advance its reputation. Key responsibilities include writing as assigned for the magazine and other publications and projects, conducting research and interviews, gathering data and content, and corresponding with other University offices and the public. Accuracy is essential; excellent proofreading and fact-checking skills are required. Other duties include assisting with day-to-day editorial tasks, production aspects, content follow-up and other inter-office projects. A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or related field is necessary.
