Sports Editor

Dexerto are looking for a Sports Editor to expand our sports coverage. This is a remote job so you will be working from home in the UK. It will require weekend work.

This is a position for an experienced and passionate sports journalist who can build our offering beyond reporting on influencer boxing matches. You could either be an Editor who has already managed a team of sports writers or a senior journalist looking to make the step up.

The right candidate will have broad knowledge of sports and its major personalities - we particularly interested in someone who can lead a small team to cover football, F1, boxing and combat sports, as well as the big American sports leagues such as NBA and NFL.

Dexerto's roots are in esports and we are looking for someone with vision who can bring a fresh take on traditional sports coverage for a younger audience. We are not looking for match reports, but we do want to keep our audience up to date with the latest results, transfer gossip and roster moves, as well as any entertaining and viral stories featuring major sports stars.

You will need experience of news writing and interviewing sports stars. Excellent SEO knowledge is essential.

You will also have experience of managing people as you will be leading a small team of writers, choosing content for them to write about, subbing copy and improving their work. Having contacts within the sports industry is also an advantage.

Social media expertise is also desirable as you will suggest stories for our social media channels.

Requirements

Understanding and knowledge of sports, especially football, boxing and combat sports, and American Sports leagues
Great news and feature writing skills
SEO knowledge
Analytics knowledge
Some managerial experience
Contacts in the industry
Good organization and time management skills
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent attention to detail – able to spot grammatical errors and formatting mistakes
Great communication skills – able to take instruction and keep various members of the team updated on progress
Own computing equipment that can run Photoshop or similar programs
Able to work full-time hours (40) without other education or job commitments
Experience with Google Sheets and content management systems, and photo editing skills
