SAIC has an opening for a Technical Writer/Editor to support the Joint Doctrine Support Program.
We are seeking a technical writer/editor to edit, revise, and format doctrinal publications and supporting documentation for the Joint Staff J-7. This editor is responsible for implementing editorial comments while adhering to strict editorial standards. These publications are ultimately distributed throughout the Department of Defense (DoD).
The successful candidate will be able to learn the specialized standards for preparing joint doctrine and related publications for the US Armed Forces and be able to edit for strict adherence to a unique established format, grammatical construction, punctuation, and the proper use of military terminology.
This is a full-time telework position; however, the candidate may be required to review and edit classified documents in the Pentagon from time to time. The candidate may initially report to SAIC's Rosslyn office in Arlington, VA for onboarding and training.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Education includes as a minimum a Bachelor's Degree with a major in English or similar field, or 3+ years of relevant work experience.
Minimum Top Secret Clearance; Eligible for a TS(SCI) clearance and be comfortable reviewing and working with classified information.
In-depth knowledge of editorial principles and techniques, as well as familiarity with quality assurance and peer review techniques.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, PDF-Xchange or other .pdf platforms, working knowledge of other desktop publishing and graphics software.
Excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, able to successfully manage and complete time sensitive projects.
Must be able to ensure language presentation and styles are consistent with prescribed style guides and the specialized vocabulary of the subject matter.
Must be able to communicate complex editorial issues clearly in a concise and organized manner, both verbally and written.
Desired Experience:
A working knowledge of DoD organizations and functions is a plus, as is experience supporting the Joint Staff or other military organizations in the area of editing/technical writing.
A working knowledge of Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
