Our mission at Asimov Press is to tell compelling biotech stories that make sense of technologies and the future. We publish essays and books that highlight progress, argue for new ways of thinking, and explain how engineered living systems are enabling outsized benefits to humanity. We are searching for an Editor to help build this publishing initiative. The ideal candidate has experience in both writing and biology. More importantly, though, they have a passion for learning; they are able to triangulate to compelling places and people, piece together disparate information, and arrive at original ideas.
The Editor should be adaptable and able to write, edit, manage writers, solicit articles, and grow social media followings. This is a unique opportunity to establish a publishing platform while learning from scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs at the forefront of biotechnology.
About the role:
Write essays and articles about engineered life, and explain how they are being applied to real-world problems.
Continuously speak with scientists and engineers to learn and discover new ideas.
Work with writers and nourish relationships; help them craft compelling stories with a clear nut graph, lede, and thesis.
Sculpt longer features for quarterly magazine issues.
Be directly involved in the long-term strategy of Asimov Press.
Be directly involved in building a publishing platform, while striving to maintain incredibly high standards for truth, writing, and originality.
About you:
You have demonstrated a passion for science writing and have several years of experience in blogging, journalism, or any other capacity.
You are passionate about learning and thrive with a high degree of autonomy.
You grasp the fundamental principles of molecular biology and living systems, and are able to hold deep conversations with scientists at the forefront of this research. You embrace ambiguity and always drive for impact.
You strive to produce rigorous, high-quality work that will stand the test of time.
You have an eye for compelling ideas, and know how to tell accessible stories that deeply resonate with readers.
We're fueled by a desire to use storytelling as a means to shape scientific discourse and directly impact the future trajectory of biotechnology and the future of humanity. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
