The Wallowa County Chieftain, an award-winning weekly community newspaper in Northeastern Oregon, is looking for an editor who can do a little bit of everything. This is a unique opportunity and is ideal for someone with some reporting experience who is interested in managing their own newsroom for the first time or for a veteran journalist tired of corporate newsrooms. Those with experience are preferred, but we are willing to train the right person for the job. Our candidate is a journalist who is passionate about local news, excited about the opportunity to publish in print, online and with social media and will understand and thrive on the story of the New West. You and your reporter will work with a professional page design team to own the Wallowa County market. Leadership, budgeting, multimedia and mentoring experience is a plus. This is a hands-on position that edits and writes stories; takes photos; posts daily to our website; and uses social media to engage readers. But above all else, your journalistic integrity is a must. Important local topics include forest health, logging, public lands grazing, water supply, wildlife habitat improvements and wildfire resilience in addition to coverage of small-town life and the active practice of accountability journalism.
