The National Wildlife Federation believes that in order to save wildlife and ourselves, we need to ensure that everyone living in America has access to clean air and water, safe communities, easy and equitable access to nature, and protection from the ravages of climate change. These basic needs, equally necessary and urgent for all people, are foundational to bringing the conservation movement and ethos into the 21st century. To advance our mission, we are seeking an Editorial Director for National Wildlife magazine. Launched in 1962, National Wildlife magazine is a benefit of membership in the National Wildlife Federation. Published quarterly, it reaches more than 450,000 households in print and online and covers issues related to wildlife and habitat conservation, connecting people with nature, environmental justice, wildlife gardening and environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and habitat fragmentation. Our goal is to take an inclusive approach to storytelling and inspire people to care about nature and act on its behalf, recognizing that each individual can make a positive difference. The Editorial Director is responsible for overseeing the editorial content of quarterly print and online editions of National Wildlife magazine and maintaining its high journalistic and photographic standards. The position requires strong equity competencies that foster collaboration, inclusion and respect. The Editorial Director also collaborates with people and programs across NWF to develop lineups of articles that will appeal to the membership, attract new supporters and reflect the goals of the Federation’s strategic plan. The Editorial Director also manages the magazine’s staff and contractors, oversees the annual budget and strategizes about new online and digital technologies that can increase engagement with existing and new audiences.
