General Assignment (Education) Reporter

New Posted 15 November 2023 | Remote | Education in Atlanta

ABOUT Education in Atlanta

Education in Atlanta is an equity-led digital newsroom committed to covering one of Atlanta’s most underreported stories: the effort to improve schools for all children within the metro Atlanta area, especially those who have been disenfranchised to quality education due to race, socioeconomics, or disability.

EIA is a startup newsroom looking to hire their first part-time reporter who’s looking to report the story under the story. Education in Atlanta is setting the stage for education coverage not only in the metro area but also in Georgia. The right candidate for this role is passionate about education and has a deep understanding of how to report on important issues within a state but also with a national background.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Education in Atlanta is seeking a reporter who has range and can write short news updates, in-depth enterprise pieces to long-form analysis pieces from across the region to the state of Georgia. This job is great for someone who likes to dig beyond the headlines, seeking documents and data to evaluate education programs and policies. We are looking for stories that no one else is doing in the metro area.

The successful candidate will not be limited to just exploring the board meetings across the region but will delve into the “underlying” stories affecting parents, students, and teachers in the metro area. The right candidate for this role is hungry to change the storytelling about education and wants to work in a startup. They can meet deadlines and find stories that push the mission of EIA forward.
