About the Role

Seeking a versatile editor with Lancet-level expertise in medical, public health, and policy topics. Must excel in teamwork, ever changing environments, and international collaboration. Exceptional research assessment skills and leadership abilities are essential for guiding experts and driving impactful change through top-tier research publications, Commissions, and Series. Extensive experience in research evaluation, peer review, and representation at high-level meetings required.

Responsibilities

Reading and critically evaluate (by applying in-depth and up-to-date scientific and medical knowledge) all papers allocated

Contributing to thought leadership by guiding Lancet Commissions and Series through to publication

Leading and shaping the strategy for a major area of research ( area of research to be defined in collaboration with the appointed Executive Editor )

Taking part in the critical assessment of other editors’ papers across The Lancet family at pre-review and post-review stages

Negotiating revisions with authors ensuring that manuscripts accepted for publication meet the highest standards of medical and scientific reporting

Monitoring ongoing research activity in allocated specialty areas, and regularly communicating with international key medical researchers

Working closely with regional titles in outreach activities

Writing editorials and contributing to the selection of topics

Requirements

Be Educated to PhD or MD level with substantial research experience

Be experienced in a variety of health settings, both globally and by institution

Have previous editorial experience in a leading general medical journal is essential

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
