The Digital Reporter serves as an officer of the court and is responsible for the audio capture, control of the proceedings and preservation of the verbatim record in selected-type depositions and other judicial proceedings in approved jurisdictions, using audio equipment and a computer with specialized recording software provided by Esquire. Esquire provides all of the training necessary for the position, as well as competitive benefits.

JOB DUTIES

Capture the audio of legal proceedings in person and remotely using audio equipment and a computer.

Perform advance preparation for all job assignments, including building job worksheets, files, and review of case information.

Prepare and maintain all required reports, logs, and timely respond to all received communications.

Provide setup of hardware for proceedings according to job specifications.

Administer oaths.

Maintain control of the proceeding as the independent authority.

Create detailed annotations of essential testimony for search, review, and transcription purposes.

Provide playback of testimony and marking of exhibits when requested.

Ensure all exhibits are secured, proper backup of all files is performed, and required worksheets completed and uploaded at close of proceeding.

Produce a quality and complete audio/video recording of the proceeding.

Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while working independently and in an office environment; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES

Exhibit a courteous and professional demeanor with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with different roles within the legal community and the general public.

Working knowledge of court procedures, legal documents, and legal terminology.

Working knowledge of digital audio/video recording technology.

Ability to obtain a Notary Public license.

Ability to obtain and maintain American Association of Electronic Reporters’ (AAERT) Certified Electronic Reporter (CER) certification.

Maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.

Self-motivated, focused, attentive, and detail-oriented.

Ability to plan work effectively, meet the deadlines assigned, and make sound decisions.

Possess problem-solving abilities to resolve challenges.

Ability to work under pressure.

Capable of taking direction from more than one supervisor.

Maintain regular and acceptable attendance, working at Esquire office when not at a job assignment.

Demonstrate a commitment to Company objectives.

Ability to pass a national criminal background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in the English language, ability to read and interpret documents and instructions with a good working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Minimum touch-typing speed of 60 wpm with high degree of accuracy.

Familiarity with computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Associate’s Degree in legal studies, communications, audio/visual technology, performance art, or military experience preferred.

Experience as a legal secretary/administrator, paralegal, legal videographer, or legal transcriptionist preferred.

MEASUREMENTS OF SUCCESS

Successfully meeting expectations in the performance of daily assignments.

Produce quality audio for accurate transcription/translation.

Ability to interact with clients in a professional manner and provide support to clients during the proceedings.

Provide detailed and accurate annotations for transcript preparation.

Exceed quality control checks on audio production, annotations, completion of worksheets and order forms.

Support office operations effectively and efficiently, as needed.
