Esri is looking for a forward-thinking copy editor who can handle a high volume of work, review a variety of material with a keen eye for detail, and take the lead on implementing innovative uses of artificial intelligence (AI) for copy editing.
Esri’s copy editing team ensures that written material (including but not limited to articles, presentation slides, brochures, newsletters, contracts, emails, and web pages) is free from grammatical and spelling errors, easy to read, conforms to Esri style, adheres to Esri copyright and trademark standards, and accurately names Esri products, events, and people. Copy editors find errors and provide feedback to writers and stakeholders to advise on how to improve readability, style, and accuracy. This role would also involve working with AI tools to develop ways to optimize copy editing responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Make editing decisions based on Esri style and other required references to a variety of challenging assignments, editing a wide array of complex content pertaining to technology, services, software products and solutions, global business development, corporate marketing, and multiple industries
Ensure accuracy in spelling, grammar, and punctuation as well as smoothly composed syntax
Suggest reorganizing, recommend changes, and offer constructive critiques
Track changes effectively and maintain accurate versioning records
Work with writing leads and AI tools to implement the application of AI across the copy editing workstream with the objective of increasing efficiency and accuracy
Collaborate with the copy editing team under tight deadlines and high volume to understand and apply best practices for the intended medium
Negotiate time conflicts with fellow copy editors and requestors as needed
Provide final quality control review for high-priority and strategic documents, public-facing documents, printed material, and contracts/agreements
Serve as resource person for writing team as well as other departments
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Esri style guide to be utilized across the organization
Collaborate with team members and external stakeholders to keep current on Esri products, services, and events as well as geospatial industry terms and usage
Requirements
5+ years of experience copy editing projects with varying degrees of complexity, size, and type; and a Bachelor's degree in English or similar field
Ability to score in the 98th percentile in a written test demonstrating expertise in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe project management applications
The desire to learn about and remain current with developments in the geospatial industry and with Esri technology
Ability to manage multiple projects, exercise good judgment, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate status to peers and leadership

$70,720—$112,320 USD
