The Long Beach Post, a growing digital publication and among the largest newsrooms in Los Angeles County, has an immediate opening for a multimedia, multiplatform reporter to cover the complex and evolving food and culture scene in our city and the surrounding communities in our coverage area: bars and breweries, dining and distilleries, cottage culinary businesses and the impact the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have on the overall industry. A prime candidate for this position would be enthusiastic about covering not just food, but telling the stories behind the food—compelling and powerful narratives about the people who make up Long Beach’s rich and ever-changing culinary landscape. As a reporter at a digital, daily publication, a demonstrated comfort level with the fast-paced, ever-changing nature of online news is a must. While we do not operate as a “content mill,” and reporters are encouraged to spend the necessary time to create a powerful narrative and to get the story right, a sense of urgency is a must. A reporter in this position should be comfortable with cold-calling and developing sources and contacts both in and around the industry.
