Food & Wine is looking for a News Editor to ideate, assign, write, and edit smart, thoughtful news and trend-driven content for FoodandWine.com. We’re looking for a digitally-savvy food enthusiast with top-tier communication and editorial skills. In this role, you will report to the Senior Editorial Director at Food & Wine to execute and grow our news strategy, with the goal of driving referrals to site and engagement both on-site and on our distributed platforms.

The ideal candidate is goal-oriented editor with a deep understanding of what makes high-quality, credible, shareable content, with a background in food media. Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment is a must.

About Your Contributions:

Assign, edit and produce 3-4 stories written by freelancers or staffers per day.

Write approximately two stories per day.

Research trending news, viral social stories, research studies, and more in the food, restaurant, and drink space to inform new content ideas.

Contribute to daily news calendar and pitch, assign, edit, and write new content based on best practices, brand voice and values, and current goals and strategy.

Build out a diverse team of freelance writers, reporters, and sources, recruiting new contributors, as needed. Develop and maintain working relationships with contributors.

Participate in all team meetings, especially daily standups, to align on content priorities and our brand approach to news coverage.

Partner with social media and email teams on creative ways to promote news content across our social accounts and newsletter sends.

Regularly track and analyze content performance, using social feedback loops, data insights, and competitive analysis, adjusting content strategy for our different audiences in real-time as needed.

Partner regularly with cross-functional teams, including growth, visual assets, email, social, communications, and more to ensure content is being promoted and helps meet goals for the channel.

About You:

2-3 years experience developing and editing digital news content, ideally with a focus on food/drink/hospitality.

Strong editing skills with an eye for good writing, solid research and reporting, and a keen sense of what content works well online.

Organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven with experience assigning articles and managing writers and a track record of top editing stories with a quick turnaround.

Creative, with fresh ideas for building a data-driven digital content strategy that addresses reader interests and brand coverage areas.

Ability to talk through visual concepts with visual editors.

Proactive, flexible, and enthusiastic team player with strong interpersonal communication skills, cultural competence, and the ability to partner with others.

Passionate and knowledgeable about the restaurant/food/hospitality industry—you stay on top of the news, trends, and latest research, can identify topics of interest for our audiences, and recognize the nuances and perspectives that will help us create content from an F&W brand point of view.

Solid understanding of current SEO best practices to inform editorial decisions and optimize copy, as well as analytical skills to identify growth opportunities and measure performance.

Experience using digital publishing tools like content management systems, SEO research tools, reporting tools including Google Analytics and Looker, and task management tools like Airtable.

Pay Range
Salary: $56,000 - $80,000
