The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is looking for energetic, versatile journalists who can shine a light on city governments and other local institutions. We don’t want to simply tell readers how their money is being spent; we want to show how the decisions being made at the local level impact their lives. We’re looking for enterprising reporters with sources and contacts who can also glean information from agendas and public records requests. These reporters will break news that makes a difference in the community and tell stories through the lens of people affected. They will hold elected officials accountable. A mixture of daily, trend and enterprising stories is expected. Fort Worth is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and is the 13th largest city in the United States. Its population is diverse, with about 35% of the population Hispanic or Latino, over 18% Black and about 5% Asian, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Star-Telegram is committed to representing the diverse North Texas communities we cover and to building an inclusive newsroom for staffers of all backgrounds. The Star-Telegram is part of McClatchy, a digitally driven company focused on innovation, with newsrooms in 30 communities in the United States. These reporters must understand how to grow readership in the digital space, using analytics tools, headlines, SEO and more. This is an on-call position, up to 40 hours per week.
