Hey! We’re looking for Content Writers. We're Cannabis Marketing School and we help cannabis retailers get on Google Maps to increase their website and foot traffic.  We're a remote-first company and our headquarters is in Toronto, Canada.

Role 

We're looking for freelance writers to work with our cannabis clients. This is a freelance and remote position. We hire year-round as client projects come up.

Compensation & Commitment 

Pay: Between $100 to $500 CAD per assignment

Commitment: Between 2 to 5 writing assignments a month

Start Date: Flexible – we hire year-round as client projects come up. 

Location: Remote – for communication, we prioritize applicants within a 6-hour time difference from Toronto, Canada

Skills

Experience ghostwriting. You have experience writing on behalf of others and adapting to brand voices.
Familiar with SEO. You know what keywords are and how to use them in your writing without coming off as stuffy.
Background and interest in cannabis. You have experience in the cannabis industry OR you have a strong interest in the plant.
Strongly empathetic, adaptive and open to learning. You are a chameleon. You can adapt your writing to different audiences and brands.
Highly proactive. We’re a small and young team, and if you’re willing to take initiative, you’ll do well.
Independent, punctual and work remotely. We don’t mind when and how you do the work as long as it’s well done and on time. You’re comfortable working on your own and managing your time.

Responsibilities

Researching
Skillfully navigate search engines, databases and publications to conduct in-depth research on any given topic. 
Identify and cite credible sources.
Actively listen to and interview subject matter experts over email, phone calls or recordings from meetings.
Spontaneously reframe questions to get missing information, when needed.
Transcribe interviews and pull relevant quotes.
Prepare thorough outlines and clearly organize ideas, opinions and information.
Writing
Content writing entails turning dry and boring information into personable and educational stories such as blog posts, whitepapers, social media posts and case studies. Respect the content writing process as if you were writing a book.
Copywriting entails writing compelling, persuasive and concise sales copy such as press releases, search ad headlines, emails and sales pages.
Write with a dynamic choice of words, metaphors, pull quotes, statistics and empathy.
Write using keywords and internal links without sounding robotic, stuffed or unnatural.
Create compelling titles that will capture the attention of the target audience.
When assigned drafted content from clients, rewrite content to be clear and engaging while still retaining its accuracy and original ideas.
Adapt to each client’s brand voice, style and target customers. Every client responds to your work thinking, “It sounds like me!”
Possess a strong knowledge of content marketing and search engines.
Editing
Independently proofread writing for spelling, grammar, punctuation, passive voice and clarity. Strong understanding of the English language.
Follow writing guidelines, briefs, wireframes and revisions.
Receive other’s feedback about work with openness and calmness.
Considers feedback as information and not as criticism, praise or moral judgment of self.
Efficiency
Manage multiple tasks for multiple clients simultaneously.
Complete all tasks punctually.
Communication

Communicate expected absences or delays as soon as they arise.

Willingness to ask for what you need to complete tasks and follow processes, with honesty and without blame or criticism.

Practice empathy and presence when others communicate their feelings and needs and make requests.
