The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, the oldest Black newspaper in the state, is looking for freelance writers to contribute to its coverage of local news and events, arts and culture, activism, and racial justice, with a focus on stories of interest to the diverse Black communities in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.
Writers with a background covering health, business, economic news, politics, and local government are encouraged to apply. Ideally, freelance contributors should have a track record of published work, sound reporting, and writing skills, digital and social media experience, a passion for news, a willingness to grow as a journalist, be deadline-focused, and have a desire to report on stories not covered by mainstream media.
Freelance writers interested in pursuing opportunities with the Spokesman-Recorder should email a resume, published writing samples, and indicate a focus or area of special interest. Please forward the information to submissions@spokesman-recorder.com.
