The Editorial Operations group at Future plc needs a senior sub-editor. The successful candidate will primarily focus on Decanter, the world’s leading wine media brand, and will have the opportunity to work on other Future titles as and when required:
In-depth knowledge of the wine world and a passion for the subject is essential for this role. WSET or similar qualifications would be advantageous
Working closely with Decanter’s hugely experienced Production Editor, this is a fantastic opportunity to become an indispensable part of the team, including deputising for the Production Editor when required
What You'll Be Doing...
Reporting to a Group Production Editor, you’ll be responsible for sub-editing primarily on InDesign layouts, following house style and championing the accuracy and appropriateness of editorial copy. You’ll be required to achieve a high quality and quantity of subbing and a consistently excellent level of attention to detail to challenging deadlines. You’ll work closely with art teams, editors and content teams as needed.
Work with the Group Production Editor to deliver against targets
Agrees and owns personal targets with Group Production Editor
Prioritises work in order to meet team requirements
Responsible for each subbing task from its defined start to its defined finish including:
Methodically researching/checking accuracy and legality
Fitting and rewriting copy as necessary
Writing captions and selecting pull quotes
Maintaining house style, brand values and tone of voice
Generating content as and when required
Checking all page furniture
Liaising with other departments
Taking in corrections as necessary
Ensuring layout is ready to final
Engenders a collaborative working environment between the team, brands and Internal departments
Proactive in solving problems or facilitating the solving of problems with content, be they short term (problem with specific piece of content) or longer term (recurring problem with content)
Aware of the ‘bigger picture’ outside of individual subbing tasks, including overall strategy and brand values
Participates in process of ongoing performance improvement

Knowledge and experience using InDesign
Outstanding communication and organisational skills

Knowledge of potential legal issues facing brands
