The Week Junior and The Week Junior Science+Nature are multi award-winning, market-leading magazines for children. They specialise in explaining complex news, events and ideas clearly and concisely to a curious audience of eight to 14-year-olds, helping them make sense of their world. Trusted by parents and teachers, and loved by their loyal readers, both titles are packed with essential information, eye-catching images and inspiring activities. Every page is carefully written, designed and forensically fact-checked with a keen focus on accuracy, accessibility and attention to detail.

If you’d relish the chance to be a part of a hard-working and high-performing team working across both titles, then this is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the right skills to join our busy subs department.

What You'll Be Doing...

As sub editor, working across both titles, you will be part of a three-person team responsible for ensuring factual accuracy, correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, house style and tone of voice for each title. Your job will be to make our stories sing while ensuring every one is correctly pitched for a reading age of 10. Be warned! Explaining science and current affairs to smart and curious young people is far more demanding than to adults. The Week Junior is a news magazine and stories are often edited right up to print deadline, so you will be expected to work quickly and calmly under pressure.

Experience That Will Put You Ahead Of The Curve...

You have solid sub-editing skills and at least one year’s experience in a similar role.
You are naturally curious with an analytical mind and a “nose” for when something is wrong.
You are a stickler for accuracy, deploying your research and fact-checking skills to ensure that every story has been fully, clearly and accurately reported.
You can polish raw copy to create engaging and accessible reports and features covering a wide range of topics.
You remain calm and clear-headed under pressure.
You enjoy being part of a team and value collaboration and good communication.
A knowledge of and interest in current affairs is essential, as is good general knowledge.
You’ll know the magazines inside out and demonstrate a clear understanding of our style and tone.
Enthusiasm for our mission to make sense of the world for young people is key.
