The Courier Journal is looking for an aggressive and curious breaking news reporter who understands how to capitalize on trending opportunities to deliver content quickly that drives audience.
The position will be split between reporting and producing duties. In addition to reporting, the ideal candidate will be adept at engaging with audiences on social media and have experience creating visual cards, compelling posts and videos. Strong SEO and headline writing skills are key to success.
The position requires initiative, accuracy, and urgency. It demands strong news judgment and the ability to find and identify stories that are important and influential and reflect the community through the inclusion of a variety of voices.
Responsibilities
Report quickly, clearly and accurately and deliver news via stories, video, newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok or whatever comes next.
Use metrics to inform story choices and shape content strategies.
Requires some night and weekend shifts.
Work with editors to experiment with new ways of informing and engaging audiences on social platforms and alternate story forms. This includes long-tail (evergreen) content.
Monitor real-time news and sniff out stories that are important to our audiences.
