The USA TODAY NETWORK audience team is looking for a producer to focus on vertical video as part of our 2024 Election Team.
This creative role will host and produce video content for social platforms (including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube) that aim to bring USA TODAY’s sharp political reporting to multi-platform audiences.
The perfect candidate for this role will be a social video native – someone who is both a consumer and a creator of vertical video dedicated to sharing news and information.
Along with identifying election stories across the Gannett network to share through video storytelling, this person will seek and pitch content that speaks to trending conversations happening across social platforms.
They will also have experience working through general election cycles in a newsroom, with knowledge of key events and dates.
This full-time role runs from January 2, 2024, to December 27, 2024, and will pay $33.65 per hour.
The start date can be flexible for the right candidate. This role is benefits eligible, and you will be able to enroll in Gannett’s insurance, 401(k), and other benefit programs.
This is a remote position, and you can be based in any state except for Alaska and Hawaii.
Responsibilities:
Host and produce vertical videos around 2024 election news and stories, partnering with political reporters to bring stories to audiences across social platforms.
Generate election-related video ideas, with an eye on explanatory journalism and trending topics across social media.
Monitor social audience engagement, sharing feedback and metrics with the broader editorial team.
Collaborate with audience team to identify new video storytelling opportunities.
Requirements:
Proven video experience, with prior experience covering elections and political news.
Comfortable in front of and behind the camera, with experience writing scripts, speaking, and shooting and editing video.
Familiarity with vertical video distribution across social platforms, with a focus on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
A solid understanding of social analytics, particularly when it comes to video engagement metrics.
The ability to take big topics and themes and understand how to visualize them in ways that make them more accessible to audiences.
The ability to think quickly and calmly during live and breaking news events.
Ensures our coverage includes a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices.
Upholds Gannett’s standards of journalistic rigor, accuracy, and fairness.
Will have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
