The Gillette News Record is looking for its next sports editor. The position comes with a level of creative and editorial control over local sports coverage for a twice-weekly in print, daily online publication. And this northeastern Wyoming town of more than 30,000 people loves its sports. The ideal candidate will primarily cover two prep high schools in Gillette along with other teams and events, such as a professional indoor football team, a junior college with six sports teams, a junior hockey team and American Legion baseball. Gillette plays host to numerous sporting events in a calendar year, from youth basketball and soccer tournaments to rodeos and amateur MMA fights. The town is preparing to host the National High School Finals Rodeo for the 13th time in the summer of 2023. Gillette’s two high schools compete at the highest classification in the state of Wyoming (Class 4A). The two schools host a handful of state events including the Class 4A state tennis tournament, the Class 4A state indoor track championships and the Class 4A state softball tournament.
