The Glenwood Springs Post Independent seeks a reporter to connect our community with the stories that matter in Garfield County, Colorado.
We have six municipalities, three school districts, a college district and a whole lot of public land in our county. The successful candidate for this role will focus their coverage and curiosity on our communities in western Garfield County: Rifle, Silt and Parachute/Battlement Mesa. It won’t just be city council and town board meetings: we want you to dig into issues of importance to all county residents such as a lack of affordable housing and resulting staff shortages, educational gaps between white and Latino students, tension between development and conservation, Colorado River watershed worries.
Recent college graduates who have already published content through a student news organization or other outlets are encouraged to apply. Spanish language experience is a plus.
Outside of the office, you’d be living in one of the most beautiful areas of the West. We don’t have a lot of beaches, but we’ve got mountains, deserts, world-class skiing, whitewater rafting, gold medal fishing and more.
Compensation: $45,000-$52,000 DOE
Benefits include up to a $500 annual recreation reimbursement, free passes to Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort, vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, vision, 401K match and more.
To apply, send your resume and 3-5 clips or links to published stories to Publisher/Editor Peter Baumann at pbaumann@postindependent.com.
