You will assist the Regional News Editor, Deputy Regional News Editor and fellow seniors to produce regional news output for the Midlands. This is for a number of brands including Capital, Heart and Smooth as well as helping support staff.

When on desk, you will build high quality, relevant, timely and accurate local news content. You’ll help set the agenda daily across the region and assist with forward planning, ensuring regional stories are heard on our national news talk brand, LBC. You’ll also play a key role in any major news events in your region.

You’ll be exceptionally skilled in the use of the full range of social and multi-media tools available to deliver a successful multi-platform news experience for audiences across the region. You’ll obviously be experienced with all legal and both Global’s and Ofcom’s broadcast regulations and guidelines.

Measures of success –

In the first few months, you would have:

Created and presented news bulletins across our Capital, Heart and Smooth Radio stations in the Midlands
Sourced, produced, and shared exclusive content with LBC and LBC News
Developed a positive working relationship with your line manager and have clear goals in place

Responsibilities of the role

Helping the team ensure all content produced is OFCOM compliant and to a Global standard.
Supporting the Regional Deputy News Editor when the RNE is off or unavailable.
Providing regular mentoring support for your team members
Help team members share our compelling and relevant news content across our national brands
Supporting Casuals and Work Experience placements, so they get the most out of their time at Global.

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

Global Radio's Seniors should enthuse about the news and our brands.
You'll have an excellent presentation style and excellent voice, and be at ease presenting either pre-recorded or live bulletins.
As well as helping with forward planning regionally, you'll be proactive in getting exclusive stories on air and online having been accomplished at reporting, desk editing and bulletin production.
Relationships within Global and outside of the company are always key. You’ll assist in building, contributing and developing effective contact databases. Good networking skills are required.
You’ll have an interest, and some knowledge, of all news issues across the region and make sure stories are explained and told in a relevant way for the distinct audiences/different brands.
You’ll have an excellent knowledge of media law and the Ofcom Broadcast Code.
