GlobalData also runs a portfolio of industry-leading websites and magazines, an international events business, and a technology-driven marketing solutions offering.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced and organised editor to take charge of Mining Technology (www.mining-technology.com) and its two associated monthly digital magazines, MINE and MINE Australia.

Your primary responsibility will be to manage the website, Mining Technology. This website focuses primarily on news, and you will be responsible for helping a team of writers select news stories each morning, and edit this news as it is written. You will liaise with a central team of sub-editors to get copy finalised and published, and manage the site's homepage for timeliness and impact. You will prepare and upload features from the magazines, and sister sites, as relevant, to the site, and potentially commission fresh site-only features as the team grows.

In addition, you will lead production of the two monthly magazines, and managing all of the components of these publications. You will be involved in assigning and editing features, for both freelance writers and in-house staff, and working with design and sales teams to ensure the magazines are visually striking, and include copy relevant to readers and in line with business priorities.

Other responsibilities include promoting the team’s output through social media and daily newsletters, and reporting on overall progress to the energy editor-in-chief. You will also be expected to support the editor-in-chief in thinking through new opportunities, editorial challenges and business strategy, sitting in on relevant company meetings to represent your team and its products. This includes reaching out to and developing relationships with GlobalData’s energy analysts and their data, with a view to using this as a source for stories.

You will be expected to provide thought leadership on mining and energy and also write your own pieces, both news and features. You will be responsible for setting the tone and agenda of the team’s writing, and guiding overall editorial direction. You may help out with sub-editing when needed. As the direct manager of at least two writers, you will also be responsible for managing them, including conducting probation assessments, leading the hiring of new staff as required, and attending regular meetings with company managers to learn about the general direction of the company, and determine how best the team can meet these objectives.

What we’re looking for:

Strong journalism background with previous experience editing and publishing magazines, preferably in the B2B space.
Experience within the Mining/Energy sector is a must
Knowledge of WordPress, HubSpot, H5 and social media sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn is preferable.
Excellent writing and proofing skills, and the ability to spot good writing and a great story
Experience in writing data- and research-based content
Management experience, particularly in team motivation, oversight and the training of junior members
Previous track record of delivering editorial content to set deadlines and experience in working with internal teams to achieve company-wide goals and targets
Presenting and public speaking experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
First and foremost we are looking for a candidate who is curious, competent and motivated to build out a small, relatively inexperienced team into a world-class reporting team.
