Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Grant Writer will work with the Foundation team and other collaborators to prioritize workload, gather necessary information to build out communications pieces, and submit grants. This person will also contribute to the Foundation’s fundraising efforts with board members, philanthropists, foundations, corporations, and government entities, inspiring their impassioned support for the Foundation's mission, social justice, the arts, and education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Granting Writing Services

Writes, edits, and submits grants for new and existing foundation or corporate grant sources.
Proactively identifies and qualifies new foundation and corporate leads.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of all Denyce Graves Foundation work and priorities.
Supports broader development, fundraising, and stewardship writing projects including print newsletter, impact reports, and other donor communications.
Maintain the grants calendar to monitor application processes, deadlines, reports, and grant compliance; summarizes opportunities for senior level management to determine whether the grant is a viable opportunity for the Foundation.
Engages leadership, when necessary, to approach certain funders for optimal outcome of grant application.
Maintain records in donor database, completing prospect plans, proposals, and acknowledgments. Write major donor acknowledgments and correspondence when necessary.
Works to achieve financial and KPI goals that have been set in conjunction with supervisor.
Assists others in supporting the Executive Director and Founder/Artistic Director, working to prepare for in-person meetings, calls, and external engagements where VIPs and funders are present.
Performs other reasonable duties as necessary to support the mission of the DGF and the work of the development team.

General Writing and Editing Services. Occasionally, this position will be asked to work with the Marketing Communications Manager, to provide general writing and editing services support. This includes:

Collaboration with DGF leadership and staff to gather information, conduct research, and ensure representation of the Foundation's work.
Provide website content and newsletters.
Letters and Letter templates
Artists Ambassador letters
Impact reports

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
Proven experience (2+ years) in grant writing and reporting, preferably in a non-profit setting. Obtaining five+ figure grants is a plus.
Experience in identifying and qualifying prospective private, corporate, and public foundations, and government institutional donors, to build a robust prospect pipeline.
In-depth knowledge of diverse musical genres, styles, and historical periods.
Persuasive communication and people skills for effective collaboration.
Passion for music history, education, and the mission of the foundation.
Demonstrated ability to craft compelling communications for a variety of audiences and articulate the case for support to stakeholders.
Superior organizational skills and a commitment to detailed tracking.
Strong editorial skills and a proof-reader's eye for details.
Proactive problem-solver with an ability to think creatively and critically.
Ability to work in a challenging environment and meet tight deadlines.
Strong literacy in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and donor databases.
Demonstrates energy and optimism in our work.
