The Content Specialist supports the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s mission by raising awareness of hunger in our community through impactful storytelling. As a member of the Marketing and Communications team, the Content Specialist creates engaging content for various Food Depository marketing and communications channels that shows the impact of our work and inspires the public to take action. The ideal Content Specialist is a creative and passionate storyteller with excellent interviewing and writing skills and an innate sense of curiosity. Fluency in professional spoken Spanish is a requirement for this role.

Responsibilities:

· Proactively support the storytelling needs of the organization by consistently identifying and writing high-quality and engaging content.

· Work closely with the Communications Manager to brainstorm, identify, and develop story ideas for use in multiple marketing and communications channels including the Food Depository’s blog, The Hunger Beat, and quarterly newsletters: Food for Thought and Partners in Hope, website, social media, annual report, etc.

· Gather details and quotes for stories through respectful and empathetic interactions with pantry guests, partners, volunteers, donors, advocates, staff, etc. and write the content. This includes conducting some conversations in Spanish, as needed.

· Support the marketing department’s needs for a Spanish-speaking spokesperson for media interviews (broadcast and print). This includes representing the Food Depository in media interviews on Spanish-language television, as needed, and answering questions using professional Spanish.

· Collaborate with freelance photographers and occasionally videographers during on-site story gathering.

· Serve as an organizational photographer on occasion.

· Assist with the production and editing of video content for use on the Food Depository’s YouTube and social media channels, and Partners in Hope e-newsletter. At times, this may include collaborating with freelance videographers.

· Assist with the maintenance and cataloguing of images/video into the organization’s photo library.

· Support the execution of other creative projects, as needed, which could include both internal and external communications.

· Support media monitoring of Food Depository news and coverage of hunger issues, including tracking trends and developing new pitches.

· Fulfill occasional speaking requests, including at community meetings and school presentations.

· Schedule and conduct Food Depository facility tours as needed and requested by external groups.

· Supervise seasonal communication interns.

· As needed, assist the Marketing and Communications team and other departments with website updates, writing, event staffing and other projects.
