We are seeking an experienced editor to help shape, commission, edit and produce international stories in close collaboration with the International news editor and her team in Sydney.
This is a dynamic role that comes with high levels of responsibility and would suit a journalist with more than 10 years’ experience working in a global newsroom on international news. Experience in the UK is preferred.
You’ll work on….
Managing our UK and US homepages, including updating and refreshing as required to keep them relevant to their target audiences
Partnering with the International news team to help ensure key international stories are commissioned, edited, subbed and launched while London and US teams offline
Supporting the New York and West Coast office and North America correspondents to handle late-breaking US stories, updates and edits to the US version of the site, as directed by the International editor in Sydney
Monitoring the news wires and other websites and continuous news channels for international and UK news stories
Commissioning foreign correspondents when a story breaks on their patch, and be prepared to serve as a contact point for them during UK out-of-office hours as directed by the International news editor in Sydney
Developing ideas for stories and series, devising innovative and interesting ways of telling them, along with ensuring all potential legal issues resolved prior to publishing
Live blog, compile news stories from available sources when not commissioning, and also write news stories from time to time in collaboration with the International team in Sydney
