Homes & Gardens is looking for a News Writer to join the ever-growing team and produce high-quality, compelling, short-form content for it's award-winning website. If you’re a journalist and digital native, with a passion for style and interior design, who is used to the pace of covering news and those always-changing trends, we want to hear from you!

What you'll be doing...

Pitch and write multiple unique daily news pieces for Homes & Gardens to optimise against and increase traffic through Google News and Discover, as well as Social and Partnerships channels (eg Apple News).
Work alongside the social media editor and team to translate news content onto relevant social platforms, including first-person video and stills.
Combine ecommerce opportunities alongside news-led content to support revenue and traffic goals.
Work as part of a team producing news traffic and collaborate to learn from experiences and skills of others.
Monitor news traffic opportunities for the sites and ensure content can be created quickly and effectively to maximise that opportunity
Work closely with the content managers and the other news editors to ensure the quantity and quality of news content delivered reaches required standards.
Analyse the results achieved by news traffic, reporting back to content managers, and show how you can adapt our output to suit.
Intensively create and update content over key commercial events e.g. Black Friday, Boxing Day sales.
Attend key industry events as required

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve...

Proven relevant editorial experience with proven background in digital
A keen interest in homes and interiors, and an ability to American audiences.
First-rate SEO expertise and a keen interest in and understanding of analytical tools, which you’ll use to form your content crafting.
Exceptional writing and editing skills - from the ability to write snappy headlines to tight grammar control, through to the ability to source the right image to draw people in.
An ability to work under pressure with a focus on goals, and deliver content to a tight turnaround.
Understanding of media law and image rights. You will be responsible for sourcing your own images for stories and flagging any legal issues.
Self-motivation. You will need to be able to manage your own workload and deliver to expectations.
Flexibility - news traffic doesn’t always peak 9-5 so some elements of the role might require a more flexible approach to hours at certain times of the year
You’ll have a passion for the data side of web editing and closely monitor and interpret performance and trends
A ruthless approach to success - you’ll enjoy the competitive nature of digital content production, taking pride in success and learning from others
A great communicator and collaborative team player - both with the industry and the wider Future team - to allow you both to sell our brands to the industry but also extract the knowledge we already have in the business and apply it.
NCTJ qualification or equivalent.
