Hour Detroit magazine offers unpaid, semester-long internships year-round. The responsibilities of a student intern include fact-checking, conducting outreach, and assisting with research. They also work closely with the editorial team and have varying opportunities to write small pieces for the print issue. Interns are expected to keep abreast of current events and encouraged to pitch stories. They may occasionally be asked to transport items for photo shoots (gas mileage reimbursed).
Requirements: The ideal candidate is a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in journalism; those with relevant coursework and experience will also be considered. In addition to being organized and detail-oriented, applicants must write clearly, using proper grammar and spelling, and work calmly under deadline pressure. They should also possess a polite, professional demeanor.
Note: This is an unpaid position. Interns must receive college credit from their educational institution.
To apply: Please contact awinn@hour-media.com with a cover letter, resume, and two writing samples at least six weeks prior to the start of the semester for which you are applying.
No phone calls, please. Only qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.
