The Kansas City Beacon’s Community Engagement Bureau will be a journalism lab reimagining local media. We’ll do this by equipping people with skills and resources, engaging in critical public conversations and producing information that directly addresses people’s needs. Drawing from our work in Kansas City, we aim to equip communities with the tools to eliminate information inequity. As a Community Engagement Bureau Manager, you’ll mentor and train community representatives with an interest in civic information. You’ll work closely with our staff to research, design and produce editorial content that directly serves Kansas City’s diverse communities. This role requires a track record of community engagement and an understanding of civic issues that impact people’s everyday lives and journalism that holds powerful institutions accountable. This is a full-time job based in Kansas City with hybrid work options. You’ll be expected to meet (in person and virtually) with Beacon staff, program participants and community members across Kansas City.
