The Beacon is seeking to hire a general assignment reporter. There is plenty of sailing and surfing here, of course, but this is not a job for sailors or surfers looking to write on the side. Rather, it’s one for a serious, conscientious journalist looking to cover a wide range of issues in print and online. Our reporters’ day-to-day work tends to reflect the diversity of our coverage. On any given day, they might interview the premier about the United Kingdom's recent threat to suspend the BVI Constitution after a damning inquiry; cover a rally for the coming election; use Zoom to collaborate with colleagues around the region on a climate change investigation; or photograph a Girl Scouts fundraiser for an audio slideshow. Other topics in the news recently include the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Irma in 2017, the upcoming trial of our former premier in the United States, the government's plan to chip away at offshore secrecy by launching a public company register next year, the tourism industry's recovery from Covid-19, and much more. All of our reporters are encouraged to work on our in-depth special reports.
