Editor in Chief
Inc. Business Media—publisher of Inc. magazine, Inc.com and the iconic Inc. 5000 ranking of America’s fastest growing private companies—is seeking an innovative, entrepreneurial editor-in-chief to expand and elevate its print, digital, and live journalism. With its focus on empowering founders at every stage of their businesses, and helping them start, run, and grow their companies, Inc. is America’s premiere editorial destination for entrepreneurs and business owners.
The editor-in-chief leads a team of 30 journalists in the U.S., serves as Inc.’s primary ambassador, and works closely with leaders in the company’s sales and marketing, direct-to-consumer, product, events, and business development teams to develop and pursue growth opportunities.
Salary range: $235,000 - $300,000 + bonus eligible. Compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, industry, and education.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Working with the newsroom to ensure the timeliness and relevance of Inc.com
Conceptualizing, with other editors, high-profile, long form journalism and periodically finding outside writers to execute the work
Editing six print issues a year
Holding the newsroom to the highest ethical standards and creating a culture of cooperation and inclusiveness
Ensuring that rankings, lists, and recognition programs are rigorously researched and editorially sound
Setting and maintaining newsroom budgets
Partnering with sales and marketing to develop or shape editorial programs or special projects
Contributing live programming ideas and recruiting speakers to participate in editorial events
Supporting Inc.’s existing membership programs and developing new ones
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
10 + years editing experience, preferably in business journalism or a related category
Fearlessness and open-mindedness
Unimpeachable news judgment
Strong contacts and sources in the spheres of business and entrepreneurship
Deep relationships with a diverse roster of freelance writers and contributors
An interest in visual storytelling and a point of view on editorial design and photography
Enthusiasm for supporting business colleagues and nurturing newsroom talent
7+ newsroom management experience
